A deal has been made with Qatar… What’s That?

The US has been talking in secret about the possibility of keeping the biggest military base in the Middle East open. A few weeks ago, they talked with Qatar about their relationship and may have reached a deal about the US base in Qatar.

The biggest US military base in the Middle East is Al Udeid Air Base, which is around southwest of Doha. It is said to be able to hold 10,000 US troops, which makes it a huge gain for the US. The base was built there because the US saw many risks from the Middle East and wanted to grow in that direction.

A deal between the Biden Administration and Qatar has been talked about being renewed, but no one has come out and said it in public yet, at least not yet. There are a lot of negative feelings about Qatar because Hamas holds talks there. Qatar, on the other hand, said that the US was to blame because it asked them to add a Hamas boss office in Qatar while Obama was in office.

In the recent war between Israel and Hamas, Qatar was a place where people could talk things out. It was like Egypt is doing now. Hamas has been pushed out of Qatar, though, and the country no longer works with them after recent events and debate.

It’s also interesting that the Biden Administration has left out information about the deals they made with Qatar. Biden, for example, didn’t talk about Qatar at a recent event; he only talked about other friends like Egypt.

Even though there are reports that everyone agrees on something, officials won’t say anything about it and haven’t said for sure if they are working with Qatar or extending their agreement.

In a recent message, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin thanked Qatar for continuing to send money to the base. In addition, he did not say that the agreement would continue or be renewed. However, he did say that both sides “will formally take steps forward to expand and strengthen our bilateral defense relationship.” He went on to say that the help from Qatar would help both the US military and the Qatari military.
