For more than a year, the United States has been waiting for Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to come up with a way to control the Southwest border.
Because of how Mayorkas is handling the border situation, a House committee recently talked about how to remove him from office. What the committee said: “The House Committee on Homeland Security has conducted a comprehensive investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’s handling of the Southwest border crisis.”
They went on to say that meetings will happen over the next few weeks. This is what people are likely to say after Biden’s immigration policies and practices are criticized.
An official from the committee said that they would do what they could to make sure that the “public is aware of the scope of Secretary Mayorkas’ egregious misconduct and refusal to enforce the law” and that things would be finished quickly.
It was answered by a DHS spokesperson who said, “There is no valid basis to impeach Secretary Mayorkas” and that this was taking attention away from the current border crisis.
Mayorkas basically replied that he wasn’t putting in as much work as he should because his team doesn’t have enough money “to do our jobs as fully and completely as we could.”
He has made it clear what he thinks and feels about this situation. “To make the border safer, we need more people to work there.” To make progress in the fight against fentanyl, we need new technology. He said, “We need more asylum officers to really speed up the process of deciding on asylum.”
In response to Mayorkas’s lack of control over the border and his overall approach to the crisis, Republicans in the House have been calling for his impeachment for a while now.
When the hearings start in a few weeks, we should learn more about the choices and actions of Mayorkas that many say caused the problem we are current facing.
