The Supreme Court says that razor wire must be taken down from the border

After much discussion, the Supreme Court finally made a decision about whether to take down or keep the razor wire that the state of Texas put up along the border.

On Monday, the Supreme Court made a decision: they agreed with the Biden Administration that the razor wire should be taken down. Texas chose to put razor wire on top of the border wall to help control the border and keep people out. So, the Biden Administration pushed for this razor wire to be taken down, and the Supreme Court wasn’t sure what to do until this Monday.

There was a 5–4 vote in the Supreme Court to take down the razor wire that was on top of the fence. The fence was called “dangerous and inhumane” by both government officials and immigration activists.

The Department of Homeland Security says that the razor wire that Texas put up gets in the way of safe and effective federal border control.

Many people in Texas have spoken out against taking down their razor wire because they don’t like the choice. While speaking out, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said that he would not let them keep “destroying our property.”

Beginning with the words “This is not over,” Abbot wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Texas’ razor wire is an effective deterrent to the illegal crossings Biden encourages.” I will keep standing up for Texas’ constitutional right to protect the border and stop the Biden administration from destroying our land.

Lt. Chris Olivarez from the Texas Department of Public Safety and other Texas officials also spoke out. He said, “The State of Texas, under Gov. @GregAbbott_TX’s Operation Lone Star, will maintain its current posture in deterring illegal border crossings by utilizing effective border security measures – reinforced concertina wire & anti-climb barriers along the Rio Grande.”

In their defense, the Biden Administration says that the razor wire makes it impossible to properly control the border and would make it impossible for officials to respond to emergencies.

It’s not the first time that Texas and the Biden Administration have had a disagreement about the border, and it might not be the last.
