The number of stray cats in California is CRAZY!

There are way too many stray cats in California, especially in Los Angeles, and people are trying to get rid of them.

They think that Los Angeles might have as many cats as people. Experts, supporters, and nonprofits are all doing their best to find a way to control the number of cats and stop them from spreading.

The Citywide Cat Program says they think there are about 960,000 stray cats in Los Angeles. There are, however, other nonprofits and groups that say this number may be closer to 4 million wild cats.

The webpage for the program has a lot of information about how it works and what its goals are. On their website, it says, “By getting people and community groups to humanely trap community cats, spay or neuter them, and then release the sterilized cats back to where they were found, we can reduce the number of stray cats that end up in shelters and on the streets.”

A veterinarian named Dr. Alex Crow spoke out about the problems that these wild cats might be causing people. One thing he said was that big groups of stray cats often hunt together, going after birds and other small animals, which can have a huge effect on the wildlife population.

Also, he said that stray cats often bring diseases, which is a big problem for people because fleas, ticks, and other diseases that they carry can be passed on to house cats from people’s homes.

There are a lot of wild cats everywhere, not just in Los Angeles. It is thought that there are about 500,000 wild cats in New York. Besides that, there is a place in Turkey with a lot of stray cats.

Crow said that TNR hasn’t really helped them control the cat population and hasn’t made a big difference. Crow is one person who has said that TNR can’t handle this problem on its own.

According to groups I’ve worked with, a better approach is to carefully remove feral colonies in wildlife-rich areas. This has led to real declines, Crow said.

“Huge numbers of colonies need to be removed when they threaten sensitive habitats as well.” “We can handle this problem better if we take a balanced approach and still care for strays,” he said.

An animal behaviorist named Dr. Mikel Delgado said that it might not even be possible to control the population. From the time they are 4 months old, he said, cats can have 24 kittens a year because their reproductive system is very strong.

A lot of experts are trying to figure out how to reduce the number of wild cats, but so far they haven’t been able to come up with much. The number of cats in California is still high.
