Tesla, Elon Musk’s cutting edge brand of electric, self-driving cars, just said that they are recalling 1.6 million of their cars. People became interested in this famous car because it was electric and had cool features like the ability to drive itself.
Tesla models S, X, 3, and Y are all included in the recall. The recall is for problems with the self-driving function and the way the door latch moves. China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced the recall on Friday. It said that most owners would not need to bring their cars in for repair because Tesla will fix the problems remotely.
It is for 7,500 Tesla Model S, X, 3, and Ys that were made between October 26, 2022, and November 16, 2023. The recall is to fix a problem where door bolts would open when hit by something, like in a collision or car accident.
It’s for the self-driving feature on more than 2 million Tesla Model X, S, 3, and Y cars. The problem starts when drivers turn on the self-driving feature but don’t look at the road because they think they will be doing something else while driving.
In a letter to the US government, Tesla stated that the recall would add new safety features, such as extra alerts and warnings for when drivers take their hands off the wheel. This is meant to help drivers stay more alert on the road, even when the self-driving mode is turned on.
There were many reports that these features caused accidents, some of which were fatal. This led to a two-year investigation that ended with this recall. So, the National Transportation Safety Board says that these extra alerts and warnings are triggered by the force that is applied to the steering wheel. However, they aren’t very accurate and won’t be able to tell if someone is paying attention or not.
