The previous president of the United States, Donald Trump, is currently on trial in New York for a civil lawsuit. He is being charged with fraud and misrepresentation.

Trump, Eric Trump, Trump Jr., and other top leaders in the Trump Organization are accused of “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation.” New York Attorney General Letitia James is accusing them of using theft and other lies to make Trump richer.

There were “fraudulent variations” in Trump’s assets, which was found in a previous trial. This trial will help decide what punishments will be given next.

As of now, Donald Trump has said that he did nothing wrong and is a “innocent man.”

Because the judge was afraid that Trump might make things worse, he decided that Trump would not be able to give his own final remarks. Ahead of the hearing, Trump was seen outside the building saying, “I want to sum up.” The judge won’t let me summarize right now because I’ll say things he doesn’t want to hear.

In the beginning of his closing statement, Trump’s lawyer said that the case was not true and that there wasn’t enough proof to even charge Trump. He says this case was “made up to further a political goal.”

His lawyer went on to say that the Attorney General has no evidence to support this and is only doing it because she “doesn’t like Trump.” He also said that allowing this case to go forward would destroy business property in New York, which would impact many more people than just Trump.

After giving his last argument, Trump’s lawyer asked the judge to change his mind and let Trump talk. The judge did say, though, that Trump would have to follow the same rules as lawyers and say “only facts and nothing political.”

When Trump’s lawyer asked him if he would be willing to follow the judge’s rules when he spoke, Trump had already started, going against the judge’s orders right away.

Trump began, “Well, I think, your honor, this case is not based on facts. The financial statements were perfect.” The banks got all of their money back. They were really pleased. “I’m an innocent man,” he said. Someone running for office has been after me.

This was exactly what the judge didn’t want, and he told his lawyer to “control his client.” Once the court case was over, Trump spoke to the press outside the courthouse. “The trial has gone pretty well,” he said. “I don’t think we’ll get a fair verdict.” But everyone already knows what I said. It’s a shame that this is a lie.
