As the new Malaria vaccine starts to spread in Africa, Cameroon will be the first country to give all of its children the shot.
A lot of work has been done in health care to fight Malaria and its effects. In any case, this effort has been in the works for a while and is set to start on Monday. Most malaria deaths happen in Africa, which is where this vaccine is being made. In fact, 95% of all malaria deaths in the world happen there.
“The shot will save lives,” said Aurelia Nguyen, top program officer at the Gavi Vaccines Alliance. Families and the country’s health system will benefit a lot from it.
The country in Central Africa hopes that this new malaria medicine will be able to protect 250,000 children. Gavi also said they were working with 20 other African nations to help them get the vaccine.
There are a lot of deaths in the country from malaria, so this vaccine is very helpful. Malaria affects about 250 million people every year, and about 600,000 people die from it. Most of those deaths are children.
Cameroon will use the two newest medicines for malaria, which are both called Mosquitrix. A couple of years ago, the WHO did back the vaccine and said that it worked, even though it wasn’t perfect.
There are only so many amounts of the vaccine that can be made each year. This is especially true in a country that has had a lot of problems with Malaria. Many people still think this is a good choice for those who have it, though. Anyway, the WHO is also about to approve a new Malaria vaccine from Oxford University. It might work better than the old one.
It’s important to remember that neither of the vaccines can stop people from getting sick, so you should still be careful and use things like nets. Spraying insects is also still a good way to stay healthy.
