South Korea was called North Korea’s “primary foe” and the constitution was asked to be changed on Tuesday. It was said that North Korea doesn’t want to avoid war with South Korea.
North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un talked about the DPRK’s ties with South Korea at the Supreme People’s Assembly. He asked for a change to the law because he doesn’t think it’s possible to unite with South Korea.
It was Kim Jong Un who said that the constitution should be changed to make it clear that South Korea is the “primary foe and invariable principle enemy.” He said that he wants the Constitution to say that the land that is in North Korea is not part of South Korea.
“We don’t want war, but we also have no plans to avoid it,” Kim said about how they would deal with South Korea in the future.
He said that North Korea should make plans to “fully occupy, subjugate, and reclaim” South Korea. He also said that people in South Korea should not be seen as “fellow countrymen.”
He also said that groups trying to bring the two Koreas together would be shut down because the country no longer wants to be united with the South.
North Korea was being “anti-national” when it called South Korea a dangerous country, South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a cabinet meeting.
Tensions between the two Koreas have grown since Kim’s call for changes to the constitution. In his speech, Kim talked about putting people first and making sure they could reach their military and economic goals.
Park Won Gon of Ewha Womans University in Seoul said that Kim seems to be afraid of South Korea, which is why he is making these moves.
“Kim Jong Un’s more and more hostile language seems to show that he thinks he’s lost the upper hand in the relationship between Koreas,” Park said.
