After cautioning about the most hazardous and destructive children’s toys available for purchase around Christmas, a Florida doctor went viral. There are plenty of options available that aren’t as secure as you may assume, as parents everywhere search for the newest and greatest Christmas present to give their children.

With 8.1 million views on her Instagram Reel headlined “The Top 5 Christmas Gifts that Can Land Your Kid in the ER,” Florida physician Meghan Martin just became well-known.

She listed button batteries as the number one item to avoid because they are extremely risky for kids and choking isn’t the only risk. She said that no youngster should ever be given anything that requires button batteries.

“Tissue injury can occur in as little as fifteen minutes. It can pass completely through the esophagus and into the main blood vessels that lead from the esophagus into the airway in a few of hours. This may be fatal, and sometimes it may already be too late even if you figure it out, the speaker stated.

Another well-liked kid’s toy that has received a lot of attention lately is water beads, which poses a risk to youngsters if consumed. They pose a risk of choking as well as serious intestinal obstructions in the event that they are swallowed.

She added that there have been fatalities linked to children swallowing water beads. “But if they’re not expanded and they’re ingested, they can swell in the GI tract and cause things like obstructions or something called an intussusception,” the speaker stated.

She mentioned how kids can be seriously injured by motorized hoverboards or electric scooters because they move quickly and children don’t have quick reflexes. She mentions that helmets are helpful, but only for certain parts of the body.

“So a helmet does help with head protection, but it doesn’t fully eliminate the risk of injury,” Martin explained.

She believes that kids should not jump on trampolines because they pose a serious danger of injury, having seen firsthand how many children get hurt on them. She goes so far as to say that they termed a particular kind of fracture they frequently observed from people jumping on the trampoline “the trampoline fracture.”

“Most of the injuries actually happen on the trampoline itself, not actually from falling off,” she stated.

She concluded her list by mentioning magnets, emphasizing how deadly they are, particularly if ingested. Avoid playing with any toys that include magnets, such as magnetic blocks or tiles.

It’s critical to understand that these tiny magnets can be hazardous, particularly if eaten in combination. Magnets will cling to one another even inside the body if ingested separately, according to Martin.

Before she closes the video, she tells us what she is gifting her kids for Christmas: dolls, bikes, non-motorized scooters, and soccer gear. In her final point, she recommends giving kids presents that will encourage them to spend time outside during the holidays.
