Global Energy Group is being looked into by the GOP

Two leaders in the Senate and the House have started an investigation into the International Energy Agency. The choice was made after looking at reports and thinking about the business goal of the company.

In a letter to the International Energy Agency, they said that the agency had strayed from its basic goal of “promoting energy security.” John Barrasso from the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and Cathy McMorris Rodgers from the House Energy and Commerce Committee are the ones who started the investigation.

“In the past few years, we would argue that the IEA has been weakening energy security by not encouraging enough investment in energy supplies,” the letter said. “In addition, its energy modeling no longer gives policymakers fair evaluations of climate and energy plans.” It has turned into an “energy transition” cheerleader instead, it said.

It’s only been a short time since the Biden Administration put a stop to export projects linked to crude oil. They went on to say in the letter that they were stopping it because of the agency’s “unrealistic modeling.” The IEA replied that the Biden Administration made this choice based on predictions rather than internal studies.

But a former head of the International Energy Agency said that the reports that the government used to make its choice were very worrying. They have been a huge help, but the U.S. Department of Energy says that things have changed and they are no longer backing their “mission.”

Republicans are upset that the agency has changed its mind about “building net-zero emissions energy systems to comply with internationally agreed climate goals” and with policies that aim to reduce carbon emissions.
