A report from the Global Report on Food Crisis says that almost 300 million people were severely hungry last year. This number comes from data from 59 countries and shows how the Gaza war has affected people. It shows that more people than ever are going hungry.

Food security is getting worse around the world, especially in Gaza and the areas around it. Because of this, many more countries are being watched for food crises. Max Torero, who is the chief economist for the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization, talked about hunger and how it affects people all over the world.

Máximo Torero said that more than 700,000 people are at the worst level of hunger, which is Phase 5. Almost 600,000 of them were in Gaza.

The study says that by July, more than a million people in Gaza will be in Phase 5 of hunger. A lot of things have had this effect on the people, like the fighting in the wars, the takeover by gangs in Haiti, and the El Nino effect, which caused storms and other natural disasters that cut down on food supplies.

The study said that El Nino had “its full impact on food security,” which included “drought in southern Africa, especially Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, and flooding and poor rain in parts of east Africa.” These effects are likely to last all year.

The report said, “The conflicts that have happened in the past year have made a bad situation even worse on a global scale.”
