First Son Hunter Biden is reportedly feeling “dark, gloomy and defeated” following his recent criminal indictment.

According to CNN’s Paula Reid, who spoke to those closest to Hunter, President Joe Biden’s son feels deflated over his own legal troubles.

“I got the sense that it’s just pretty dark and gloomy over there, they feel defeated,” Reid said on Thursday. “They really thought they were gonna be successful.”

“Even when it first fell apart, they felt the judge would ultimately approve it,” the CNN senior legal affairs correspondent added.

Reid also said that Hunter still keeps in contact with his father but is struggling to look for employment at the moment.

“He’s actually still very close to his dad, they talk frequently but they don’t talk about this. Hunter doesn’t want to burden his father with it,” she said. “It’s very difficult for him to find employment right now or raise money so these charges today, they came as news to his team.”

This comes after Hunter was recently indicted for making false statements and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Last week, Hunter was indicted on federal gun charges out of Special Counsel David Weiss’ investigation, including charges for making a false statement in the purchase of a firearm; making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federal firearms licensed dealer; and one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

Abbe Lowell, the first son’s lawyer, condemned the indictment on Thursday and lashed out at former President Donald Trump’s supporters.

“As expected, prosecutors filed charges today that they deemed were not warranted just six weeks ago following a five-year investigation into this case,” Lowell said in a statement. “The evidence in this matter has not changed in the last six weeks, but the law has and so has MAGA Republicans’ improper and partisan interference in this process.

“We believe these charges are barred by the agreement the prosecutors made with Mr. Biden, the recent rulings by several federal courts that this statute is unconstitutional, and the facts that he did not violate that law, and we plan to demonstrate all of that in court,” he continued

These are the first charges Weiss has brought against President Joe Biden’s son since receiving special counsel status.
