Vice President Kamala Harris has hired Erin Wilson as the new deputy chief of staff following recent departures within the veep’s camp.
The White House confirmed that Wilson is joining Harris’ office from the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, where she is currently the deputy director.
The Pennsylvania native will begin work on May 31. She previously served as national political director for President Joe Biden’s campaign and has worked as a Senate and Democratic National Committee staffer.
“Her leadership, dedication, and thoughtfulness will be an asset to the Vice President’s team,” described White House deputy chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillion of Wilson.
She will be replacing Michael Fuchs, who announced that he would be leaving the vice president’s team earlier last month.
“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve in this administration, working for the Vice President and President on behalf of the American people,” Fuchs wrote in an email. “Thanks to the work of this administration — and all of you — that our country has had such success in tackling these challenges and turning things around.”
Since last summer, 12 people have jumped off the vice president’s ship. Most recently, Harris’ chief of staff Tina Flournoy announced that she would be leaving her post.
“Tina has been a valued advisor and confidant to me and tremendous leader for the office,” the vice president said in a statement. “From day 1, she led our team during a historic first year as we made progress rebuilding our economy here at home and our alliances around the world. Tina is the consummate public servant and I will continue to rely on her advice, counsel and friendship.”
Many speculate that Harris is a hard boss to work for, causing the vice president’s high turnover rates. It’s not uncommon, however, for the vice president to be demanding.
A recent poll revealed that Harris is actually unpopular in her liberal state of California, with only 35 percent of Californians satisfied with the vice president’s performance while 45 percent disapprove of her, according to the survey conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies.
