More than a third of working Americans are not motivated

A new study says that more than one-third of Americans have never been less motivated at work than they are now. Two thousand employees were polled for the study, which found that more than one-third of Americans also feel like they can’t get anything done.

The environment and job setting played a big part in this, and many people have said they want to change their workspaces. Talker Research did the poll for Lifetime Work. It found that people who have a work routine, especially those who work in person, find it “stale.” More than 60% of people said that the people they work with and the place where they work have a big effect on how much they get done.

“Employers and employees are becoming more aware of the link between physical activity and mental health and the ability to do our best,” said Brooks Hagen, senior director of LifeTime Work. Hagen went on to say, “As a result, we’re seeing demand from both team leaders and team members for workspaces that are close to health and athletic facilities so that they can make those activities a bigger part of their regular wellness routine.”

Many people have said that going for a walk or taking a break can help them when they are stuck or don’t feel like getting anything done. Out of these Americans, 15% say they work out less than once a week or not at all. However, more than two-thirds say that being more active would make them more productive at work.

Hagen said, “The idea of designing a workspace based on activities is more useful now than it was even five years ago.” He went on to say, “Working in a place that actively encourages physical activity throughout the day is better for your health and helps you do your best work.”

A little over 40% of Americans say they don’t have much time for themselves during the workday. They said that having an active place or gym in the office so people can take breaks and get moving could help them be more productive.
