An Iowa man was nabbed on Monday six years after faking his own death to avoid his child porn charge.
According to the US Marshals Service, the suspect identified as 28-year old, Jacob Greer was arrested in Spanaway, Washington after he faked his suicide, by “removing an ankle bracelet and fled from Des Moines” in 2016.
Authorities revealed that during the time he disappeared, the suspect had been bailed out on his April 2016 charges of receipt and possession of child porn.
The police report also added that Greer, who was living with her grandmother at that time, “removed his GPS monitoring device” and “left a suicide note in his vehicle.”
Moreover, before he left, he reportedly borrowed $1,000 from a friend to buy a car and took with him a survival pack that included a bow and arrows.
In an official statement released by Southern District Iowa US Marshall, Ted Kamatchus, he called the arrest “a testament to the tenacity of the department and other investigative agencies.”
“Even though the case went cold, they would not quit,” Kamatchus added.
At the time of writing, it’s still not clear what he was doing in the years since or how the authorities found out about his fake suicide and arrested him.
The service confirmed that Greer is currently in the federal custody in Seattle awaiting extradition to Des Moines for a trial on Tuesday.
