Horrific Crime Against Elderly Has New York City On Edge

Crimes against the elderly have increased in the liberal city of New York, raising concerns for our elders.

This comes after a 25-year-old Hispanic man went on a murder spree in Brooklyn earlier this month, killing one and injuring three others.

“Thomas Abreu, 25, was arrested and faces several charges including murder, two counts of attempted murder and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon,” CNN reported.

Among the victims was 86-year-old Hamoo Saeidi from Queens. Saeidi was standing in front of a manicure parlor in the borough when Abreu allegedly fired one shot at the man’s back, striking him.

Police said that the shooter didn’t appear to be specifically targeting anyone, merely taking out targets as the opportunity presented itself. He also took frequent breaks to enjoy seeing them suffer and die.

“We don’t know the motive. It seems that this is actually random,” Joseph Kenny, the assistant chief in the NYPD’s Detective Bureau, told the news network. “At this time, video shows that he’s not targeting anybody, he’s not following anybody. As he’s driving on his scooter, he’s randomly shooting people.”

Abreu is currently facing charges related to three of the shooting incidents at this time, but an NYPD spokesperson said that the district attorney’s office will still have to decide whether he faces any additional charges in the other three incidents.

Despite this, however, liberals are still pushing for cashless bail, “prison reform,” and other soft-on-crime insanity.

New York City has also struggled with an increase in crime since the COVID-19 pandemic. The city has recorded a 42.7 percent increase in major crimes this year through April 24 compared to the same period in 2021, which includes a 46.7 percent increase in robberies, a 54 percent spike in grand larceny incidents and a 14.9 percent surge in rape reports.

Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell has since said that the NYPD is committed to “addressing the deep-rooted causes of criminal behavior.”

“The NYPD will never relent, and the department has made far too much progress over the decades – and invested far too much in the communities it serves – to fall back by any measure. New Yorkers deserve better,” Sewell added.
