The NYPD arrested the suspect who was identified as 62-year-old, Weng Sor after the police pursued him through the neighborhood as he swerved on and off the sidewalk.

According to the authorities, the attack only stopped after law enforcement blocked the suspect’s truck near the entrance to a tunnel which is about 3 miles from where the horrifying incident began.

In an official statement released by New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, he revealed that at least eight people were injured and remained at area hospitals to recover.

“At this time, we have no indication that there is any terrorism involvement in this incident. However, as always, we will continue to investigate this incident with the full resources of the NYPD and our partners.” Sewell said in an interview with the reporters at the scene on Monday afternoon.

In an exclusive report published by Fox News, it was revealed that “at approximately 10:50 a.m., officers responded to a single male driving a U-Haul truck in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn. The vehicle struck a number of people, ultimately being stopped near the entrance to the Battery Tunnel into Manhattan by highway patrol units.”

Sewell claimed that authorities investigating into the incident are still constructing the events, adding that the information released at the first afternoon press conference from the scene was preliminary.

The commissioner also added that “of the eight people struck, two are in critical condition, two are in serious condition and four sustained a minor injury. Seven of those people are civilians and one of them is a police officer who was taking police action during this incident,” Sewell said, according to Fox News.

Previously, New York City Councilman Justin Brannan posted a tweet, confirming that the suspect was taken into custody at Hamilton Avenue and Columbia Street.

“A man driving a U-Haul went on a rampage in Bay Ridge. He was just apprehended in Sunset Park. Several people were hit and badly injured. We have no idea of motives at this time, but this wasn’t an accident,” Brannan said.
