Days after Pauli Pelosi was brutally attacked, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke up and revealed to the press how she got the news that her husband, Paul, had been attacked.

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Pelosi revealed that she was “very scared” when the Capitol Police knocked on her door. Pelosi claimed that she was sleeping in Washington, DC, when her doorbell rang early in the morning.

“I look up, I see it’s 5 [a.m. ET], they must be at the wrong apartment,” Pelosi told the reporter who asked where she was when the incident took place.

The house speaker also described how she ran to the door after the doorbell rang again and then she heard “bang, bang, bang, bang, bang on the door.”

“So I run to the door, and I’m very scared. I see the Capitol Police and they say, ‘We have to come in to talk to you.’” Pelosi described and upon hearing these words from the police, her thoughts went immediately to her children and her grandchildren.

“And I’m thinking my children, my grandchildren. I never thought it would be Paul because, you know, I knew he wouldn’t be out and about, shall we say. And so they came in. At that time, we didn’t even know where he was,” Pelosi said.

Moreover, the House Speaker also brought up the fact that she appears to have been the intended target of the attack. “For me this is really the hard part because Paul was not the target and he’s the one who is paying the price. He was not looking for Paul, he was looking for me,” Pelosi said.

Last Month, the House Speaker’s husband, Paul Pelosi was brutally attacked with a hammer at the couple’s home in San Francisco by a male assailant during a confrontation involving Nancy Pelosi.

According to the reports, before the intruder hit Paul, demanded to see Nancy Pelosi.

The House’s speaker’s 82-year old husband reportedly suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his right arm and hands, and remains in hospital.

The court documents also revealed that the suspect, identified as David DePape, 42, is charged with “six counts relating to the attack, including attempted murder, burglary, assault, false imprisonment and threatening the family member of a public official. He has pleaded not guilty to all state charges,” CNN reported.

Furthermore, following the attack, rumors surfaced that Nancy Pelosi is stepping down from her position as the White House speaker. However, at the time of writing, Pelosi has not released an official statement yet, regarding this matter.
