Republican Attorney Crackdown on Crime

Liberal cities all over the country are facing an alarming spike in crime but a Republican prosecutor is here to save the day with an efficient approach to crack down on crime.

Prosecutor Melissa Nelson of Florida has much to offer to Democratic lawmakers, such as targeting violent criminals and seeking punishments for repetitive offenders to neutralize criminals, which she has done in her jurisdiction.

Thanks to Nelson’s solution, murders in Jacksonville have reduced by 30 percent and shootings went down by 17 percent in 2021, compared to 2020, according to data.

The National Police Association has also shown approval of the prosecutor’s aggressive plan, saying that the statistics show that her policies are working.

“When she decided last year that she was going to really be aggressive about gun crimes, she got mocked, and one of her detractors was going on and on about, this never works, putting people away and throwing away the key,” said spokeswoman Betsy Brantner Smith. “And now, look, since she’s been doing it, it’s been working.”

Nelson’s plan includes tying gun violence with the display of weapons in musical videos and seeking harsh punishment for those involved in violent gun crimes, which has led to low homicide rates, compared to the nearby areas and other states.

“After experiencing a substantial downturn in violent gun crime in 2021, we continue to work together to combat violent crime in hopes that this trend continues,” Nelson told reporters. “Currently, we remain on par with last year’s numbers. Improving public safety and fighting violent crime remains a top priority for our office and law enforcement partners.”

Earlier this year, Nelson secured a manslaughter conviction against a drug dealer implicated in a Jacksonville woman’s overdose death. She’s also backed an effort for prosecutors to obtain warrants before supervisory approval, a measure that is being heavily criticized by liberals.

Meanwhile, Democratic-led cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Portland are still experiencing a spike in murders, with LA homicides rising to 53 percent and shootings to 24 percent in just two years.

A spokesman for the Fourth Circuit State Attorney’s Office, which Nelson heads, proclaimed the city’s proud achievements.

“In 2021, Jacksonville’s murders were down 30% and overall shootings down 17% from the year prior,” according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office data. “Given last year’s downturn, our numbers to date aren’t far off the mark and thankfully have not spiked like other cities.”
