Bob Barker, one of the most well-known television hosts in American history, passed away due to natural causes at his residence in Hollywood Hills, California, on August 26. He was 99.
For 35 years, he was the legendary host of the “The Price Is Right” television program. The celebrity’s publicist, Roger Neal, announced his passing.
In 1972, Barker started hosting “The New Price Is Right,” which CBS subsequently omitted the “New” from. Barker also aired “Truth or Consequences” from 1956 to 1974. On the show, competitors try to correctly identify the cost of goods to win cash and prizes.
Many contestants took the stage while he hosted the program for almost four decades. He received 18 Daytime Emmy Awards while working on the program, including four for his work as executive producer. Barker also received a Lifetime Achievement Emmy in 1999.
In addition to hosting the program, Barker played himself and beat up Adam Sandler’s character on the golf course in the classic comedy “Happy Gilmore.”
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sandler released a statement about the passing of his friend. The actor referred to Barker as a “legend” and expressed his regret at the host’s departure from life. He extended his love to the star’s family and described the day as “heartbreaking.”
The man. The myth. The best. Such a sweet funny guy to hang out with. Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him. Loved him kicking the crap out of me. He will be missed by everyone I know! Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thanks for all you gave us! pic.twitter.com/hhZvYAQUK3— Adam Sandler (@AdamSandler) August 26, 2023
Barker’s enthusiasm for animals prevailed over his love for his business. He had served as the Miss Universe and Miss USA master of ceremonies before quitting in 1988 over the awarding of fur coats as awards. He urged viewers of “The Price Is Right” to spay and neuter their pets before he concluded his program.
Also embroiled in a dispute was the late Betty White, whom Barker sometimes called his “sworn enemy” since she supported zoos and battled to keep a captive elephant in Los Angeles.
A short and private ceremony will be held, and Barker will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon, who passed away due to lung cancer in 1981, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
