A son-in-law of a supreme leader of the Gulf Cartel was arrested by Federal Authorities in Texas for allegedly operating within the criminal organization in a kingpin-like capacity.
The man was identified as Carlos Fabian “El Cuate” Martinez who is believed to be a top operative for the Gulf Cartel was arrested along with several others in South Texas this week.
Martinez is reportedly the son-in-law of supreme leader of the Gulf Cartel, Osiel Cardenas Guillen who is currently serving a 25-year-prison sentence for drug trafficking conspiracy.
“Osiel Cardenas, the Gulf Cartel boss credited with establishing Los Zetas as his personal security detail at the time. He is described as a local businessman in the Brownsville/Matamoros area, however, he is alleged to be operating within the criminal organization in a kingpin-like capacity. A criminal history search in Mexico and in the U.S. does not show any prior arrests,” Breitbart news revealed in its exclusive report.

The suspect was arrested during a raid in Brownsville where the others including, Marco Antonio Medina, Pedro Calvillo Hernandez, Sandra Guerra Medina, Mireya Miranda, and Jose de Jesus Tapia Fernandez were also apprehended.
Breitbart also added that “the individuals have gone before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan for an initial hearing and learned their cases would be moved to Houston and be held without bond” since the initial arrest this week and that “indictment has not been released or unsealed. Breitbart Texas sorted through court records and was able to learn that at least 12 individuals will face charges, however.”
Currently, Osiel Cardenas Jr., who is Martinez’ brother-in-law is also awaiting trial in federal custody for charges on arms smuggling and a state assault charge in relation to a stabbing incident at a Brownsville bar.
The recent arrest came just a month after Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez revealed that law enforcement has recorded a surge in recruitment videos on social media sites since last year.
“That is why we are experiencing an increase in human smuggling events along the border. Many individuals from larger metropolitan areas such as Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and even out of state are being recruited as drivers through social media platforms to smuggle illegal immigrants.” Olivarez declared.
