Washington Mystics player Natasha Cloud is facing intense backlash online following her recent statement about the country in response to multiple Supreme Court rulings.
The Supreme Court’s rejection of using race as a factor in college admissions, citing it as a violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment, has sparked controversy.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Cloud expressed her dissatisfaction with the state of the country.
Her comments came in the wake of another Supreme Court ruling that prevented the Biden administration from implementing its student loan debt relief program.
“Our country is trash in so many ways and instead of using our resources to make it better we continue to oppress Marginalized groups that we have targeted since the beginning of times. Black/brown communities& LGBTQ+ man we are too powerful to still be attacking issues separate,” Cloud lamented.
“Imagine having all the power and resources to be great. I’m talking about everybody eats. Then imagine wasting it on hateful ideologies. Imagine weaponizing religion. That is America. We are a hateful disappointment. That’s the truth. We have the potential to be great,” the athlete claimed.
Cloud’s remarks have garnered criticism from various figures in politics, entertainment, and sports.
“No ma’am, you are trash. America is and always will be the greatest country in the world. You have the opportunity to play basketball in this great country and get paid to do so. This country provides opportunity and you then keep people down with your rhetoric.” Mike Sperrazza, Radio and Podcast Host, said.

“It seems the only traveling you’ve done is on the courts with such naive & ignorant thinking. The WNBA has NEVER made a profit since it began. You can’t even get women to support you & your sport because ya’ll don’t compare to men’s sports. You’re boring. Go practice & shut up,” a netizen added.
“America is a free country so she has the right to call it “trash” But at least tell us which countries you think are better For example I bet she isn’t planning any trips to Russia this off-season,” Senator Marco Rubio said in a statement.
