The United States is preparing for war against Iran in an attempt to prevent the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

A US official revealed that the US will not rule out military intervention in case Iran continues to pursue its plan to gain a nuclear weapon.

In a conference early Monday morning, State Department’s special envoy to Iran, Robert Malley spoke on the U.S. approach to Iran, its nuclear capabilities and the two countries’ current status amid a nuclear agreement between the two.

According to Malley, the country remained committed to its effort to prevent Iranian nuclear armament through diplomatic means, CNN’s Jennifer Hansler wrote in the outlet’s exclusive report.

He also clarified that there has been “no movement” in the U.S. in rejoining JCPOA since “late August, early September.”

Malley stated that, with little progress being made, the U.S. would not be putting much of a focus on the deal, Hansler revealed.

“Nothing’s happening on the nuclear deal so we’re not going to spend our time, waste our time on it, if nothing’s going to happen,” Malley said.

However, Malley declared that the United States would not rule out “a military option if necessary” as its last resort to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“@USEnvoyIran tells @aarondmiller2 the US is still committed to using diplomacy to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, but would turn to “a military option if necessary” as a last resort. @CarnegieEndow,” Hansler posted on Twitter.

““There is nothing now that we are not doing because we are thinking of the potential of a potential nuclear deal in the future,” @USEnvoyIran says, adding “we’re not tying our hands because of this hope that someday there’ll be a deal,” the reporter added.

In 2015, the United States was among the countries who participated in the crafting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In a report released by Newsweek, JCPOA is “an agreement that would have Iran cut back on its nuclear enrichment and development programs. The deal also involved China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany and the European Union.”
