UnitedHealth is trying to get back on its feet after a cyberattack

Some people who work for UnitedHealth are having trouble getting paid because of a hack in February

Some practices, like Change Healthcare, say they can’t bill customers electronically for their services anymore. Paper claims were also a problem because California’s Medicare payout processor wouldn’t accept them, and the process can already take months. A representative for the California Medical Association said that Medicare and Medicaid centers should be able to accept paper claims.

The cyberattack on UnitedHealthcare was “the most significant and consequential incident of its kind against the U.S. healthcare system in history,” according to the American Hospital Association.

I Am The Cavalry’s co-founder, Beau Woods, spoke out about the security measures that are currently in place for healthcare. “The federal government needs to give more money and more attention to the problem,” he said.

After a hack like this one, it might take at least 30 days to fix some of the problems that were already there before the attack. United Health is still working to get two services back up and running: medical claims and computer payments. This could take until the end of the month. United Health said, “While we work to restore these systems, we strongly recommend that our provider and payer clients use the applicable workarounds we have established.” This was done to try to fix the problems.

Many patients and practices are having a hard time because patients have to pay for things out of their own pockets and practices lose money when patients can’t do that. It’s hard for these groups to stay in business because they’re not making much or any money.

As an independent care doctor, Stephen Sisselman was very worried. He asked, “How can you pay staff, supplies, and malpractice insurance when you don’t make money?”

There have been loan plans for hospitals and practices, but the amount they are giving won’t be enough. Sisselman said that the loan only gives him $540 a week, even though his business should make hundreds of thousands of dollars a month.

There are problems that providers and groups are having, and they want the government to step up and fix them.
