A Ukrainian mother was seriously wounded for shielding her baby from the blast after the missile strike in Kyiv.

As civilian toll mounts amid the intense war between Russia and Ukraine, 27-year old mother Olga was seriously injured, and had her head bandaged and her upper body covered in cuts after she shielded her baby from shrapnel blasts during a missile strike in Kyiv.

“I was wounded in the head, and blood started flowing. And it all flowed on the baby. I couldn’t understand, I thought it was her blood.” Olga said while trying to recall the moment where she saw blood covering her child.

According to Olga, when her husband, Dymtro, took the girl from her, she began screaming that the baby had been cut.

“Olga, it’s your blood, it’s not hers,” Olga recalled her husband responding.

Olga also added that the 6-week old baby was already covered with a blanket to keep her warm after she suddenly woke up to feed her when the missile strike occurred.

“And that’s what kept the baby alive. I just got her covered in time. And then Dmytro jumped up and covered us, too.” She claimed.

“There’s nothing left for us to do but to stay positive, just to believe that it was the worst, the most horrible thing that could have happened in our lives,” Dmytro added.

Ukrainian authorities revealed that at least 60 civilians have been killed in Kyiv after several missiles strike on residential buildings since Russia launched what it calls a “special military operation” on Feb. 24.
