Ukraine is reportedly repairing the damaged Russian tanks, using them in the war.
Ukrainian mechanics in Kharkiv have been repairing all damaged T-72 and T-80 tanks. Some of the tanks are now back in the battlefield against their original owners.
According to the reports, the repaired Russian tanks have contributed to Ukraine’s successful counteroffensive in the country’s second largest city amid the ongoing war between the country and Russia.
Ukrainians have also been searching through the damaged tanks in some areas of Kharkiv, located in the northeast, for any intelligence information that was left behind after the Russian troops have pulled back months following their first attack that failed.
Reports also revealed that Ukrainians have been stripping the tanks that were too damaged to repair for parts.
In an official statement released by Ukraine, the country was able to have captured 74 Russian tanks. Ukraine also claimed to have destroyed 1,000 tanks but at least 200 have been lost. However, at the time of writing, it’s still unclear how many Russian tanks have been destroyed in the war.
Russia’s massive tank force has been seen as one of the country’s biggest tools in the battlefield since the invasion started in February. However, recent reports showed how the tanks have been blocked, bogged down and destroyed.
However, it’s not only Ukraine who has been following the same strategy. Early April, Russian mechanics were reportedly seen restoring damaged Ukrainian Tanks and vehicles.
According to the Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian forces have also been capturing Ukrainian military vehicles, including tanks and armored personnel carriers and restoring them to put them back in the battlefield against their original owners.
Previous report also showed a new Russian repair base located “practically on the front line” is reportedly staffed by high-quality servicemen.
On March 14, the Kremlin announced its motive to “disable enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine that manufacture, repair and restore weapons that nationalists use to commit war crimes.”
Reports revealed that the country has been targeting Ukraine’s weapons factories, hoping to chip away at Kyiv’s ability to repair damaged vehicles and equip its army. Russia has also been bombarding Ukrainian arms plants since the start of the wider war on Feb. 23.
