A minute or so later, a police officer on assigned duty at the mall located the victim on Grammercy Street close to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, as stated by Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert. A nearby hospital later declared the person deceased.

Albert affirmed that police secured the area and led customers and mall personnel to safety as they looked into the incident close to where the victim was found.

“Early indication is this is an isolated incident,” Albert confirmed. “This does not appear to be an active shooter situation. This was an isolated incident in front of the mall.”

The administration of Easton Town Center declared on Sunday that the event was “no longer an active situation” as of 7:39 in the evening.

Greg Bodker, the deputy chief of the Columbus Police, stated during a press conference on Sunday night that although some minors had been held concerning the incident, no arrests were being conducted yet.

The nameless victim was a young guy, Columbus police revealed on Monday, and two 13-year-old boys were detained for their involvement in the incident.

One of the boys was accused of murder, and the other was charged with obstructing justice.

The boy’s defense attorney refuted the murder charge during a court appearance on Monday. The young man was remanded in custody until his Thursday court date. Prosecutors claimed that the child tried to conceal the gun inside a garbage can at the mall.

The prosecutors added that the second youngster made up his whereabouts to the police before being caught on security tape. The judge ordered the boy to wear an ankle monitor after releasing him. The youngster is only permitted to leave the house to go to school as a condition of his release, and he is not permitted to use social media.
