Trump Clobbers Romney After He Attacks His Wife

In a recent fiery statement on his Truth Social platform, former President Donald Trump asserted that Senator Mitt Romney had actively sought a position in his administration as U.S. Secretary of State.

This declaration comes amidst a turbulent history between the two political figures, marked by public spats and personal insults.

Despite Trump’s endorsement of Romney’s 2012 Republican presidential nomination bid, their relationship soured significantly after Trump secured the 2016 Republican nomination.

In his scathing online post, Trump branded Romney as a “total loser” and celebrated Romney’s decision not to run for re-election in 2024, claiming to have effectively forced him out of the political arena.

Trump took issue with what he referred to as Romney’s “crummy book,” which he alleged portrayed no one in a positive light except former GOP House Speaker and 2012 running mate, Paul Ryan, whom Trump also criticized as a “RINO.”

“Mitt Romney, a total loser that only a mother could love, just wrote a book which is, much like him, boring, horrible, and totally predictable,” Trump wrote. “I am very proud to be the one who forced this Left Leaning RINO [‘Republican in name only’] out of politics.”

Notably, Romney has not recently authored a book, but he is extensively quoted in an upcoming biography by author McKay Coppins, titled “Romney: A Reckoning.”

In the book, the Utah senator vehemently criticizes the current state of the Republican Party, including his strong disapproval of Trump.

Trump argued that the book should have included details of Romney’s supposed request for a Cabinet role following Trump’s unexpected 2016 electoral victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Does he mention his late night dinner with me at Trump International Hotel when he begged to be Secretary of State, then giving GLOWING COMMENTS about DJT at a follow up News Conference?” Trump said in a statement.

Trump emphatically stated that he never intended to give Romney the position, stating, “I didn’t give him the job, NOR DID I EVER INTEND TO,” he added. “I JUST WANTED TO PROVE A POINT, THAT MITT ROMNEY IS, & ALWAYS HAS BEEN, A LIGHTWEIGHT JOKE!”
