The US begins airstrikes against Iraq?

In reaction to a drone attack that was carried out by Iraq and attributed to Iran, the United States launched airstrikes into that country on Tuesday, December 26.

The American airstrikes, according to the Iraqi administration, were “hostile acts.” One Iraqi security force member was killed and eighteen individuals, including civilians, were injured in the airstrikes. This was a “unacceptable attack on Iraqi sovereignty that would harm bilateral relations,” according to the government.

The airstrikes, which were described as “necessary and proportionate” and “intended to disrupt and degrade” the capabilities of the Iran-aligned forces responsible for the attacks against the United States, were believed to have targeted three targets.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated, “We are committed and fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities, even though we do not seek to escalate [the] conflict in the region.”

US authorities declared on Tuesday that if US forces were still being targeted, the military would keep taking revenge. They were ready to defend their nation and hold their ground in the event that the onslaught persisted.

The spokesperson for the US National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, stated that “should these attacks continue, the United States will act at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”

Austin stated, “To be clear, there is no higher priority than defending the United States, our troops, and our interests. The president and I will not hesitate to take necessary action in this regard.”

According to US Central Command estimates, the latest attacks killed many Kataib Hezbollah fighters, destroyed the targeted installations, and did not result in any civilian casualties.

Many are saying that this is just another response to the increasing number of deaths in Palestine and that the current state of affairs globally has many nations on edge, on guard, and prepared to battle.

In any case, this is an additional assault that might spark a more intense dispute. As the violence escalates, we should anticipate tensions to rise even though the US seems unwilling to back down and has made it plain that it will fight back.
