A woman who calls herself a “super commuter” talked about how easy it is for her to get from New York to Michigan. For Susan Miller, who has to make this trip for work, it feels even shorter than when she takes the Long Island Rail Road to get to New York.
“I get to enjoy a different culture and atmosphere than in New York City.” “And the flight from New York to Michigan doesn’t take more than two hours most of the time,” she said. “Sometimes I joke that the trip from my New York City apartment to Ann Arbor, Michigan, takes less time than the 23 years I worked on the Long Island Railroad going into Chelsea.”
In her speech, she talked about her skills and how she has learned to get around the city easily. She said, “I know how to get around on flights and Ubers.” “Plus, after rushing through airports so many times, I’ve learned how to move quickly through busy, crowded places. I’d even say I’m physically fitter.”
Miller also said that booking her flights ahead of time helped her get better deals and get ready for the trip there and back. She says that it’s cheaper to take the plane and buy tickets ahead of time than to take the train.
Miller said she was given a job deal in Michigan, but she lived in New York. She was on the fence about taking the job, but in the end she did, and she’s thankful for the situation she’s in.
“I think I have the best of both worlds: I get to teach caring, smart students from all over the world, and when I get off, I can enjoy all that makes New York City fun and exciting.”
