Several sources say that both the US and China are thinking about how to stop the trade of drugs, especially Fentanyl. This is the first time since things got worse between the two countries that they have worked on a project together.
The US and China have formed a joint anti-drug group that will help keep Fentanyl from getting into the wrong hands and being made.
President Xi Jinping of China and Vice President Joe Biden just recently met at a Summit in November. They talked about working together to help stop the production of chemicals that are used to make Fentanyl.
It’s 50 times stronger than heroin and is very addicting. Fentanyl has become a big problem all over the world because it’s so dangerous. But China has refuted these claims. The US says that China is the main country that makes the chemicals that are used to make Fentanyl.
China’s minister of public security, Wang Xiaohong, said, “We talked in depth and were realistic.” The work plan for the working group was agreed upon by everyone.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says that over 100,000 people have died in the US because of drug accidents. Also, it is said that more than 80,000 of those deaths were caused by too much drug use.
Wang said, “Our cooperation once again shows that the relationship between China and the US is better when we work together and worse when we fight.”
It has been said that China is “the main source for all fentanyl-related substances trafficked into the United States” by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
There are tense ties between these two countries, but many people hope they can put their differences aside and work together to solve a problem that many countries around the world are having.
In October, Washington put bans on a lot of Chinese companies and people that they say are involved in making or selling Fentanyl. This was the first step in this change. Even though this is a very big deal, Beijing is denying that they are participating or that they are one of the main places where Fentanyl chemicals are made.
