A US Secret Service worker was sent home from Israel for allegedly physically assaulting a woman outside a bar in Jerusalem, reports revealed on Wednesday.
According to the Secret Service Agency, the department was informed late on Monday after a report reached out to them alleging that an employee was “allegedly involved in a physical encounter.”
In the official statement, the agency said that “the employee was briefly detained and questioned by Israeli police, who released him without charges. The employee has returned to the United States.” It also made it clear that the alleged assault was not sexual in nature.
In addition, the employee was reportedly a member of the Secret Service’s Counter Assault Team. The agency also claimed that its access to the agency’s systems and facilities has also been suspended amid the investigation.
The incident comes before US President Joe Biden visited Israel on Wednesday. Biden is also set to travel to the West Bank before he meets with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, Monday’s incident was also not the first time that Biden was forced to send Secret Service officers back to the US from a foreign country.
According to the reports, an agent and an armed physical security specialist were sent back to the US after an alcohol-fueled confrontation with a cab driver in South Korea.
During that time, President Biden was scheduled for a trip to South Korea. Reports revealed that the incident took place outside the hotel where the president later stayed at in Seoul.
Furthermore, the series of incidents became controversial with several Americans blaming Biden’s leadership for it.
