Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is possibly making another presidential run as U.S President Joe Biden’s approval ratings are going low ahead of the midterm elections in November.
In an interview with the Financial Times in June, Clinton made it clear that she no longer has any intention of making another presidential run.
However, Biden’s low approval rating and alleged mental health decline have led to the rumors of a possible Clinton comeback resurfacing.
In a piece published by CNN’s editor-at-large, Chris Cillizza on Tuesday, Cillizza revealed that the Supreme court’s decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade could be the key for Clinton to reenter electoral politics.
“Clinton’s comments about not running again came before Roe was decided,” the piece read.
“As someone who has fought for women’s rights throughout her career as first lady, US senator and secretary of state, might the Supreme Court’s ruling have changed her calculus somewhat as she looks to her own future? Changed circumstances can lead to changed minds.” Cillizza added.
CNN’s editor-at-large also claimed that it is “utterly implausible that Clinton would run against Biden in a primary in 2024,” and added that “open nomination if Biden takes a pass on running would be something that would be hard for Clinton to not at least look at.”
“That’s not to say she would run. It’s only to say that her name would get bandied about if the seat was open. That’s a lock,” Cillizza explained.
He also declared that “Clinton is exactly the right person to put steel in the Democrats’ spine and bring attention to the reality that ‘ultra-MAGA’ Republicans, as President Biden calls them, are tearing apart the nation. Keep talking and talk louder, Hillary!”
Not only that, conservative writer John Ellis also claimed that 2024 is the right time for Hillary Clinton to make a(nother) political comeback.
“Now is her moment. The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade creates the opening for Hillary Clinton to get out of stealth mode and start down the path toward declaring her candidacy for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.” He wrote.
However, despite the rumors, Clinton clearly stated that she had no intention in running for presidency again as she continued to cast doubt on the legitimacy of her election loss to former President Donald Trump in 2016.
