An NYPD officer was bitten in the head by a charging pitbull while responding to a report of an armed gunman on Sunday.
The incident occurred at Neptune Avenue and West 35th Street around 6:10 p.m. when the suspect ran into a home and unleashed two pitbulls from inside the building.
According to the reports, one of the dogs charged the police and bit him in the head while the other one was shot by another police officer.
The authorities confirmed that the dog is expected to survive while the officer was rushed to a nearby hospital for the bite wound, which is believed to be not life-threatening.
Moreover, the officer who shot the dog was also taken to the hospital for routine evaluation for shooting a firearm.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains at large after it barricaded himself inside the home.
