Parents and experts have both spoken out about the link between teens and sexual abuse on social media.
Professionals say that the more kids use the internet, the more chances these predators have to get to know kids and abuse them. One in five children will be sexually abused before they turn eighteen, according to a number. More than half of the kids who said they were being harmed on the internet said it was someone they knew.
“The pornography that people watch these days is a lot more violent.” “Video is also a big part of it, and video by its very nature is more graphic and intense,” said Chris Yadon, executive director of the advocacy group Saprea.
As an example, experts said that kids are hurting other kids and that the pornography they watch might teach them how to do this.
Yadon said that sextortion is the type of sexual abuse against children that is growing the fastest. This means using sexual content to threaten someone with money, sexual favors, or even more detailed content.
He then said that parents should learn what they can do to make sure that their child doesn’t have to go through something like this. He also said that you should never close the lines of contact with your child so that they know they can tell you anything.
This is becoming more of a worry as more kids get into the digital world and make social media accounts. Some changes have already happened. For example, Meta said that people under a certain age couldn’t make a social media account.
