The liberal city of New York will spend $20 million to house migrants on Randall’s Island amid the southern border crisis.

According to a state source, New York taxpayers will be paying $10,000 per migrant to hold them in a facility.

Additionally, Democratic Mayor Eric Adams said that the city’s migrant crisis will cost $12 billion over the next three years.

“We are past our breaking point,” Adams said. “With more than 57,300 individuals currently in our care on an average night, it amounts to $9.8 million a day, almost $300 million a month and nearly $3.6 billion a year.”

The decision was met with pushback from locals. Vilda Vera Mayuga, head of the city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, is petitioning to block the use of youth soccer fields for the migrant shelter.

Since the Biden administration lifted “Title 42” earlier this year, the number of illegal border crossers has increased to an all-time high. According to the Department of Homeland Security, nearly 2.4 million migrants were detained at the border for the fiscal year ending in September, surpassing the already-historic number of 1.7 million migrant detainees in 2021.

In New York, around 100,000 men, women, and children seeking refuge have arrived in the Big Apple, with more than 57,000 people residing in 198 emergency shelters across the five boroughs.

This comes as New Yorkers grow frustrated over the mayor’s five-star treatment of illegal immigrants. Most recently, Adams announced his plans to enroll illegal immigrants in college. Adams is seeking to provide as many as 100 migrants with 12 months of classes, room, and board in upstate Sullivan County.

“The mayor’s office is giving us money for things like supplies for people to live on, and the dorms and food,” said spokesman Michael Rosen of The Center for Discovery.

The cost to taxpayers has not been disclosed, but given the price for just two semesters at SUNY Sullivan, it will most likely exceed $1.2 million in the first year.

As expected, both initiatives are facing pushback from residents and lawmakers, with many noting the negligence of locals in favor of illegal immigrants.
