People who are Muslim are angry at Biden because the House passed a plan to send $26 billion to Israel as aid. Assistance for Taiwan and Ukraine is also in the bill. Biden promised to sign the assistance into law as soon as it arrived at his desk.
But in response, Islamic leaders in the U.S. have been criticizing the administration for backing Israel. Some have even told the administration that signing this bill would be the “last straw.”
“That heartless decision could be the end of the White House’s relationship with the American Muslim community and other Americans who are against the killing in Gaza,” said Robert McCaw, who is in charge of government relations for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
According to McCaw, “the administration is already at its lowest point in its relationship with the American Muslim community.”
The aid, according to CAIR National, was a “blank check” that would give more “offensive weapons” to Israel, which they have already “used to slaughter at least 34,000 Palestinians in Gaza.”
What people really didn’t like about this aid was that it wasn’t clear what it was for or how much was to be used for offensive or defense weapons. A lot of people are worried about this because they think they could use the weapons for offensive strikes that are more dangerous and cost more than just defense in the war.
The Democratic Representative for Washington, D.C., Pramila Jayapal said, “We cannot keep watching the violence in Gaza and have U.S. military aid be a part of that violence.”
