A law-abiding citizen who used a firearm to defend his family from robbers said that he has been stripped of his gun permit.
Speaking with the National Rifle Association (NRA), a married father of one, said that his concealed carry permit was taken away just days after he used it to fend off would-be robbers at his home in Los Angeles, California.
“After successfully defending my home and my family and my 5-month-old child, California has now decided to suspend my Second Amendment [rights],” Ricci said in a video for the NRA, which was exclusively obtained by Fox News.
According to Ricci, the incident occurred on Nov. 4 when he returned to his gated house after hitting the gym. Just as the L.A. resident was opening his front door, two armed men leaped his fence and attempted to break in. Inside were Ricci’s wife, their 5-month-old kid, and the family nanny.
After the incident, Ricci said that the sheriff’s office called him recently to inform him his concealed carry permit was “revoked,” apparently due to him “yelling” at Los Angeles police officers when they visited his home to investigate the shooting three days after the incident.
California has historically been a challenging place to obtain a concealed carry permit compared to other states. Ricci previously told Fox News that the application process took months.
Ricci, however, used his gun in his own home. Legal U.S. residents over the age of 18 are permitted by California law to carry weapons on private property and in their homes without a license or permit.
“My situation is unique because it happened at my front door, all on camera. But this happens time and time again all over the country … People sweep it under the rug because it doesn’t behoove their political agenda. The fact is, evil will always exist,” he said in the video.
The NRA has since released a statement calling the revocation of Ricci’s CCW “reprehensible” and saying that they’re “proud to have Vince as a fellow NRA member.”
“His decisive actions to protect his wife and daughter embody the core principles that NRA members fight for every day,” NRA spokesperson Billy McLaughlin said in a statement. “It’s reprehensible that California is shredding his Second Amendment rights after he defended his family.”
