A man in Houston shot and killed an alleged carjacker who approached him at a gas station this week.
Reports revealed that the 21-year old gunned the suspect while he approached him and attempted to carjack him before 5:30 p.m. at 8300 block of Park Place Boulevard.
According to the Houston Police Department, their officers were immediately dispatched to the scene after they received a report about the altercation.
Once the police arrived, they found a 29-year-old man unresponsive in a crashed vehicle a few blocks from the shooting. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In a police report released by the department, the shooter told the police that the man approached him and attempted to carjack him.
He was allegedly sitting inside his vehicle when the alleged suspect approached and initiated a physical dispute, police said.
“At that time, the male in the vehicle fired several shots and struck the male. The shooter then exited his vehicle and called.” A police officer said in an official statement.
The wounded man then entered the shooter’s vehicle and attempted to flee before he crashed a few blocks away, the police added.
At the time of writing, the case is being referred to a Harris County grand jury.
Another Houston shooting incident occurred during the same week after a police officer shot an “erratic” man who attacked a couple in their own home in southwest Houston on June 22.
According to the officer, the suspect allegedly had a gun with him and he appeared to point his gun down the hallway toward the officers.
The police reportedly ordered the suspect to put his hands up and to stop moving several times. However, he didn’t listen.
While the police asked one of the victims if he was alright, the suspect attempted to reach for something near his body once more which led the police officers to fire several shots at the suspect.
Following the incident, the police department released the video of this incident on their YouTube page.
In 2021, the Houston Police Department started imposing the policy that requires them to release the body camera video within 30 days of an officer-involved shooting.
