Karine Jean-Pierre, a spokesperson for the White House, and Peter Doocy, a reporter for Fox News, got into a heated exchange at the press briefing on Thursday.
The confrontational connection that exists between the two adversaries was rapidly made clear throughout the exchange.
“So what do you call it here at the White House when 10,000 people illegally cross the border in a single day?” Doocy questioned KJP sharply.
The question seemed to catch KJP off guard, and he responded, “Peter, when GOP puts forth a… wait, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!”
Jean-Pierre shouted. She started to respond to the question with another question, and the two quickly started shouting at each other.
Doocy pleaded, so KJP remarked that she tried to answer the question, but she was being stopped, before picking another person to pose the question.
Social media erupted throughout the discussion as people vented their outrage at Jean-Pierre’s strategy for dodging a question.
On X, one user commented, “Has she ever really answered anything? Seriously, I don’t think so.”
Another social media user exclaimed, “I can’t even listen to this woman anymore!!! I’m done,” and the other one tweeted, “She wasn’t answering his question.”
Another person asked since when asking a question is also answered with a question.
According to CBP data provided by NBC News, border officers on Sunday encountered roughly 10,000 migrants in a single day. In terms of location, there were 1,800 contacts in the Rio Grande Valley, 1,600 in Del Rio, 1,500 in Tucson, Arizona, and possibly 1,000 in El Paso, Texas.
Doocy was also making reference to a Fox News report that detailed the increase in illegal crossings throughout the summer. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has struggled to deal with an increase in the everyday encounter with migrants.
The spike in border crossings has continued throughout September and is clearly noticeable following the summer, when they had been quite low. The record was achieved in May, when there were 10,000 contacts in a single day, thus the current figures are still less than that.
The Biden administration had previously cited the decline in arrivals throughout the summer as proof that its border controls were working.
