Arizona Judge has rejected Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s lawsuit over the 2022 election on Saturday.
Just this week, Town hall revealed in its exclusive report that two from GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s claims which challenged her Democrat opponent Katie Hobbs election victory can go to trial, the Arizona judge ruled on Monday.
The two claims that will forward to the trial phase are the counts on Chain of custody challenges and intentional malice regarding widespread. However, the eight other counts were dismissed by Maricopa County Superior Judge Peter Thompson.
In an exclusive report released by Associated Press, “Lake will attempt to prove in a two-day hearing scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday that ballot printers malfunctioned in Maricopa County because of intentional interference by election officials and that ballots were improperly added at a county contractor that handles returned mail ballots.”
“A representative for Lake will be allowed to examine 150 ballots on Tuesday. She faces the extremely high bar of proving not only that misconduct occurred but that it affected the outcome of her race. Thompson will make a final decision, which will likely be appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court,” the report added.
My Election Case provided the world with evidence that proves our elections are run outside of the law. This Judge did not rule in our favor. However, for the sake of restoring faith and honesty in our elections, I will appeal his ruling.— Kari Lake (@KariLake) December 24, 2022
The controversy arose after Lake lost her race to Arizona’s secretary of state, Democrat Hobbs, by about 17,000 votes.
However, after the two-day trial, Judge Thompson found that Lake had not proven that election officials had committed intentional misconduct which was sufficient to change the outcome of the race
In the order written by Thompson, he claimed that “The margin of victory as reported by the official canvass is 17,117 votes – beyond the scope of a statutorily required recount. A court setting such a margin aside, as far as the Court is able to determine, has never been done in the history of the United States.”
“This challenge also comes after a hotly contested gubernatorial race and an ongoing tumult over election procedures and legitimacy – a far less uncommon occurrence in this country,” the judge added.
Following the decision, Lake released a statement, claiming that she would appeal the judge’s ruling.
“This Judge did not rule in our favor. However, for the sake of restoring faith and honesty in our elections, I will appeal his ruling,” Lake tweeted on Saturday.
