At an old time, Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with the President of Guatemala and told people coming from other countries, “Do not come.” As we can see from what’s happening at the Southern Border and how it has affected the country, this didn’t always work.
People coming from Guatemala have been seen more than 700,000 times at the Southern Border. That being said, millions of people from all over the world have crossed the line in the same way. There was a question this week to President Bernardo Arevalo of Guatemala about whether the refugees have followed Harris’s request. “Well, I don’t know,” was his answer. “You do the math.”
Arevalo came to the US to talk with President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris about how to better deal with the problem of immigration here. During the meeting, they were called “enchanting,” but the president of Guatemala did say that they needed more economic help from the United States to get people to stay in Guatemala.
“Working together doesn’t mean sending money. Cooperation can mean making it possible for you to invest in Guatemala and open factories, which will start making things and providing jobs. The president of Guatemala said, “That’s really what we care about most.”
“We have to work to give people what we call “the right to stay,” he said. People can stay where they are. “People need to look for chances.”
Kamala Harris was asked to look into why there was a sudden surge in the number of people coming to the United States.
So, Arevalo said that he was looking forward to working with whoever wins the next election to make sure that all Guatemalans who are U.S. citizens get all of their rights, and he hoped that this kind of teamwork with the U.S. would continue.
