FBI raids Rep. Henry Cuellar’s home and campaign office in Texas as part of a federal investigation for his alleged relationship between several US businessmen and the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan.
The allegation came after witnesses revealed that they spotted federal agents carrying items out of Cuellar’s home in Laredo on Wednesday, while more agents were spotted outside his campaign office. According to a report released by ABC News, a source claimed that the raid was related to a federal grand jury investigation into possible crimes related to Azerbaijan.
“The FBI was present in the vicinity of Windridge Drive and Estate Drive in Laredo conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity. The FBI cannot provide further comment on an ongoing investigation.” spokesperson Rosanne Hughes said
As of the moment, it is unclear whether Cuellar is a target of the grand jury or whether he is being investigated for allegations of criminal wrongdoing.
66 year old Rep. Henry Cuellar was recently a co-chair of the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus and a former customs broker and Texas secretary of state, who was first elected to the House in 2004.
