As an alternative to the Boy Scouts, which are about to change their name to Scouting America, families are looking into faith-based youth activities. According to some, the Boy Scouts have moved on from their original goal and are now focusing on other things, which may not be what all parents want for their children.
The president and CEO of the faith-based group Awana, Matt Markins, spoke out against the Boy Scouts’ well-known rebranding. “Anytime organizations lose their rootedness, and especially if we chase these progressive visions, we end up waking up in a world that’s really hard to recognize and very difficult to navigate, and I think that’s what’s happening to some of these organizations,” he stated.
His words continued, “In our group, we say that Awana is based on the Bible and the gospel.” “That’s where we’re staying forever.”
As part of a larger plan to change their image, the Boy Scouts of America have changed their name to Scouting America. But this wasn’t the only change that people didn’t like. Some scout leaders were openly gay, and they let transgender girls and boys join.
The CEO, Roger Krone, said that the changes were made to make the program more open to everyone and to get rid of any hurdles that were stopping some people from joining.
Track Life USA is a faith-based group that helps teach young boys how to deal with problems in the real world while also teaching them outdoor skills.
As families move away from the changing Boy Scouts and look for Christian-focused programs for their young boys, these faith-based groups are becoming more popular.
