Los Angeles Police seized a man who was carrying two loaded pistols in shoulder holsters along with extra ammo after the man pretended to be a US Marshall working as part of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s security detail.
Kennedy is currently vying for the Democratic presidential nomination. When the incident happened, he was in Los Angeles for a Hispanic Heritage celebration.
The man who was seen by actual security personnel holding a US Marshall credential and a federal ID tag has not yet been identified by the authorities. The fact that the security team did not recognize the armed man instantly raised concerns for Kennedy’s safety.
The arrest brought to light a significant inconsistency within the Biden administration. Major presidential and vice presidential candidates are routinely provided with Secret Service security under the law.
President Joe Biden has declined to offer his competitor Secret Service protection despite the fact that both his father and uncle were murdered.
Kennedy has repeatedly requested protection from the government, and after the event on September 15 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, he has reiterated his request.
Kennedy commended Gavin de Becker and Associates, his private security team, for their prompt action and responsiveness. Kennedy also praised the LAPD for arriving on the scene immediately and seeing to it that the armed impersonator was apprehended without incident.
Charges have not yet been made public. To decide which organization would oversee the inquiry, the LAPD spoke with the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The man would probably be arrested on a firearms charge, as it is forbidden to carry a gun in plain view in California.
There will probably be further charges, such as the impersonation of a federal agent that this man has done.
The heavily tattooed person, as reported by Kennedy and his colleagues, never threatened anyone or pointed a gun at them during the event. Despite being spotted with people sporting the GDBA emblem, this is the first time that Kennedy has recognized the existence of his private security squad in public. The company has given $4.5 million to a super PAC created to support Kennedy, and it is a significant supporter to the Kennedy campaign.
