A father in Oklahoma confronted a school after his daughter brought home a book with a shockingly explicit graphic novel.
The Oklahoma dad was banned from school after airing his complaints over the book his daughter brought home from the school’s library.
According to the reports, the book contained explicit graphic novels.
In a statement released by Tim Reiland, the father of two children who attend Owasso Public Schools, the book titled “Blankets” allegedly includes graphic images of sexual encounters, masturbation and “a child being raped.”
During an interview with News Channel 8, Reiland claimed that “there was children with their penises showing that were urinating in each others’ faces. There was scenes, and this is graphic, images of ejaculation. There are scenes of teen sex. There are also scenes of a child, a child being raped in the book, and all in graphic depiction.”
He then went on to report the incident to the school which initially responded to him by pulling the book for review.
“I was very happy with that. I thanked them. I sent emails thanking them,” he said.
However, the school board members of Owasso reportedly voted against a new policy to restrict “pornographic content” from the district’s libraries.
“We get pushback as parents saying, ‘Well you’re just trying to ban books or burn books.’ No, we’re not. We’re just trying to protect our children from pornography,” another parent said.
Despite their efforts, there was no such vote on a policy change, prompting the concerned father to confront a board member in the school parking lot.
“It feels to me like the district is afraid to be forced to hold any of their employees accountable if they mess up,” Reiland lamented.
The witnesses confirmed that the confrontation between the father and the member was not violent but did include a few choice words.
As a result, a few days later, Reiland received a letter from Owasso Superintendent Margaret Coates, informing him that he was banned from school property for six months.
“You are hereby directed to leave the Owasso Public Schools and all of its grounds (including sports venues) and not return,” the letter reportedly said.
According to Reiland he can’t even pick his children up from school “without written permission from Margaret Coates.”
