US President Joe Biden sparked mockery and outrage among American netizens after he accidentally commended China instead of Canada while praising the nation’s stance on migration last week.
During a Canadian Parliament in Ottawa on Friday, Biden made another controversial gaffe while delivering his speech while he was discussing the U.S. immigration policies.
“In the United States, we’re expanding legal pathways for migration, to seek safety and humanitarian…humanitarian basis, while discouraging unlawful migration that feeds exploitation and human trafficking,” President Joe Biden began.
The controversy arose after Biden stumbled and said “So today, I applaud China for stepping out…excuse me, I applaud Canada,” which caused the Canadian Members of Parliament to laugh.
“You can tell what I’m thinking…about China. I won’t get into that yet. I applaud Canada’s stepping up of similar programs.” Biden responded as the audience and Canadian Parliament members laughed.

Following the embarrassing mistake, Biden did not reference China again during the rest of his speech to the Parliament.
However, reports revealed that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau noted China’s competitive edge before Biden began speaking.
“Economic policy is climate policy is security policy, with growing competition, including from an increasingly assertive China. There’s no doubt why it matters that we turn to each other now to build up a North American market on everything from semiconductors to solar panel batteries.” Trudeau said in a statement.
Meanwhile, following Biden’s controversial speech, it sparked mockery and criticisms among American netizens, with many of them blasting the President for “embarrassing the country” while others brought up his alleged illegal business dealings with China.
“That was no slip up either. He applauds China because they have enriched him and his family by the millions,” one netizen said.
“Your first statement—You meant it — I am sure you applaud China for stepping up to enrich you and #BidenCrimeFamilly,” another added.
“Everyone just giggles this off. ( as usual). While the rest of us watch this and think how embarrassing this is,” a netizen responded.
Another netizen also said, “not even Biden can tell the difference between China and Canada anymore.”
“So embarrassing! In all my life I have never felt this embarrassed about a leader of our country,” another one added.
“That’s who he’s loyal to! China,” a netizen lamented.
Biden’s controversial speech comes as heated tensions between China and the United States continue to escalate.
On Friday, Chinese officials reportedly threatened the U.S. Navy with “serious consequences” after an American warship was spotted in the South China Sea.
