US Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., announced a new effort to halt spending on a new FBI headquarters, citing “malfeasance” at the FBI’s Washington Field Office.

According to Gaetz, the measure “calls for the House of Representatives to halt all spending allocated towards the FBI’s new proposed headquarters outside the District of Columbia.”

“Today I will be introducing the “FBI Washington Field Office House Arrest Act.” Gaetz declared.

In a statement, the Republican claimed that “there are still good men and women in the FBI whose task and purpose are to defend our country, but the FBI’s weaponized Washington Field Office is rotten to the core,” adding that “through our investigations in the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, we have uncovered extremely disturbing testimony from FBI whistleblowers that the Washington Field Office is targeting Americans who oppose their corrupt political agenda.”

The GOP lawmaker also added that “the cancer at the Washington Field Office has metastasized so large that the entire body is in critical condition” and “gifting the FBI a new headquarters larger than the Pentagon would condone, reinforce, and enable their nefarious behavior to levels we have never seen before.”

Moreover, Gaetz revealed to the public that the Act will be co-sponsored by Republican Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Rep. Dan Bishop (N.C.), Rep. Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), and Rep. Harriet Hageman (Wyo.)

Gaetz’ announcement comes a month after he was informed that there would be no charges filed in connection with the investigation launched by the FBI in December 2020 into his cellphone to determine what role the lawmaker may have played in the alleged sex trafficking of a 17-year-old girl.

The Republican then celebrated the news while he was speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference and called for abolishing the FBI if necessary.

“If you don’t mind me saying so, I think vindication looks pretty good on me! I don’t care if it takes every second of our time and every ounce of our energy, we either get this government back on our side or we defund, get rid of, abolish the FBI CDC, ATF,” he told the crowd.
