The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that four additional cases of monkeypox have been reported across the United States.
The CDC revealed that the new cases add to a growing number of 25 cases that have been reported nationwide.
Senior writer for infectious disease, Hellen Branswell posted a tweet, reporting the concurrent outbreaks going on globally.
“US Monkeypox sequence data suggest there are at least 2 concurrent outbreaks going on globally, CDC says. It suggests the virus may have a foothold in places that haven’t been identified & have been spreading longer than recognized.” Branswell said.
In a report released by Fox News, it was revealed that there are “five each in California and New York and two each in Colorado, Illinois and Utah.”

“Georgia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington state have all separately reported one case of the monkeypox virus,” the report also stated.
Moreover, over 700 cases of monkeypox have been reported worldwide.
“U.S. health officials on Friday urged doctors to test for monkeypox if they suspect cases, saying there may be community-level spread but that the overall public health risk remained low.” The NTD News reported.
Meanwhile, the CDC assured the public that no deaths have been reported from monkeypox and several patients have already recovered even without hospitalization.
The CDC also announced that monkeypox is nowhere near associated with coronavirus despite a number of researchers being deeply concerned about the rampant spread of monkeypox.
“Monkeypox doesn’t spread as easily as common illnesses like COVID-19 or the flu. People can only catch monkeypox if they have close contact with someone who is infected,” the CDC wrote in a tweet.
“Cases have now been reported in 20 countries that don’t normally report monkeypox, including the U.S. No deaths have been reported in the current outbreak to date,” the CDC added.
Meanwhile, no vaccine has been specifically created to stop an individual from getting infected by the virus. However, some smallpox vaccines are available for the treatment of monkeypox.
Although the spread is clearly a concern for several researchers, it is not a pandemic, despite public fears pushed by some.
