The government of Great Britain has said that they will be moving their testing center for “frontier” AI to the United States. It wants to improve its reputation as a world leader in artificial intelligence and deal with the problems that come with technology.
Early this week, the government said it would hold a U.S. version of its AI Safety Summit. The purpose of this summit would be to test advanced AI systems. U.K. Technology Minister Michelle Donelan said this “shows British leadership in AI in action.”
“It is a turning point in the U.K.’s ability to look at the risks and opportunities of AI from a global perspective. This strengthens our partnership with the U.S. and opens the door for other countries to use our expertise as we continue to lead the world on AI safety,” the statement said.
With this growth, the U.K. would be able to use the many smart tech people in the Bay Area and the rest of the U.S. It also says that this would help them “strengthen ties with the US to advance AI safety for the public interest.”
The AI Safety Institute was talked about at the AI Safety Summit. Its goal was to improve unity between countries when it comes to AI safety. The government said they were testing cutting edge AI models and found that some of them were able to solve hacking problems while others were not.
They talked about the improvements that AI models go through after they have been tried. They said they had tried models from OpenAI, DeepMind, and other top contenders. They are still testing AI systems and expanding to the United States, so the process is still going on.
